Week 9 of Studying Computer and Internet

The Internet: History and the underlying Technologies

At the end of this week I learnt and discovered the history of the especially from ARPANET, I also learnt some basic application uses of internet.

I have also understood and learnt that the technologies lie behind accessing the internet, and i appreciate the internet connection.
I was able to learn a little bit about the 'Language' of the internet and relate it to other form of communication systems. Really interesting!

However, I also discovered about the safety Issues pertaining to the access and use of the internet.

Week 8 of studying Computer and Internet

Presenting Skills: Microsoft Power point Basics

At the end of this weeks lesson, I learnt how to apply MS Office Programs namely MS word, MS Excel, MS Power point. I also discovered tools, especially the advanced tools in MS office to enhance the quality of my work especially my assignments.

I also understand some simple  tips for effective presentations and was able to create slides using a variety of slide layouts designs, create a table for a slide and to add picture to a slide. I also learnt how to apply a design and transitions effects to all slides.

Week 7 of learning Computer and Internet

Through out the week we were introduced to word processing skills. We were first taught about Advanced Microsoft word, after that our lecturer taught us how to work with styles and templates, customizing tables and creating charts ant to create Mail merge documents.

We had a week break during the 6th week, so there was no class... It was a nice long holiday though...

Week 5 of studying Computer and Internet

After this weeks sessions I've  learnt about the Antomy of MS Windows operating systems. It consists of windows operating system history, Microsoft windows, Microsoft 7 aims, the windows 7 requirements and the improvement of windows 7 compared to Vista.
In class the lecturer demonstrated to u show the Aero in the windows are operating. He also showed how to go to many icons in there...

Week4 of studying computer & internet

After this session i've learnt and discovered that computers are able to communicate with each other to convey human message, also the concepts of a computer network and the principles of Data communication. Mr Azamuddin showed us some educataional video on how the networks are created, the video's are really interesting.

This session we learnt about the different types of Computer Networking systems, and so far i know

how to differenciate between the networks and give examples and I also discovered the

characteristics of peer-to-peer network and server based network.

 

 

 

 

Week3 of studing Computer & Internet

This week we learnt about the role of computing software. We have discovered and learnt that:

• It takes several levels for a user to be able to communicate with a computer hardware, but of course we can't 'see' it.
• The software layers involved in the user-computer interaction.
• The components of a system software.

Week3- Session2

This session we learnt about the Programming  Languages: Machine, Assembly, and High level language.
By now we know what and why we need a programming language, and that this different language has different syntax and semantics, however there are various types and characteristics of PL especially the oject-oriented based languages, and it is possible for end-users to write 'programs' without being qualified programmer nowadays.

                                        

 

 Week3 Session3

This session we learnt Standard Software Packages: Overview & typical installation procedures.
By the end of this session we came to understand the Application software for various types of end-users, Various software packages available off-the shelf and downloadable from the internet, the Guides and tips dealing with having application software for the computer, and we also learnt how to take care of the computer system and how to utilize the hard disk space when installing new software.

We learnt  and discovered The 'Black box' of a computer system, The internal Operations inside the computer, led by the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and The architecture of a computer system.

This session we are still looking through the topic of Computer Hardware Basics, well there are new sub topics being introduced; Storage Devises, Input/Output Devices & Other Peripheral Devices.
However I'm already familiar with some of the devices but some of them I've seen other people using it but I don't know the names of such devices, well during this session I discovered most of the devices and their names.
By now, I've realized and discovered:

• The various forms of input and output devices
• The various forms of storage devices
• Factors affecting the performance of input/output and storage devices
• Possible characteristics for devices in the future 

 

Week2 of studying Computer and Internet

Hello every one,
week2 session1 we we learnt how computers begun and how it evolved until what we have
today, we have this 1st generation of computers, during this time they only used vacuum
tubes, and then there's this second Generation of computers, they replaced the vacuum tubes
with transitors and later on the third generation of computers was introduced, they came up
with this integrated chips which decreased the size of computers and the fourth generation
very large and ultra large-scale integration was introduced AND then this fifth Generation
computer is what we are using now.
And we learnt the various types, shapes, sizes and capacity of computers around us, not
limited PC only.

I learnt something really new, during this session, coming to see and understand how the
computers are made and so on, after seeing the pictures that my teacher had described i was
happy that now adays we have a better Generated computer to use, not only that but also we
could carry these computers with us.

 

 

 

 

Week1 of Studying Computer and Internet Course

 

Mr. Azamuddin is our Computer and Internet instructor, he introduced the topic during this session.
I knew  what a computer is and I've used some of the programmes in the computers. I am interested in taking ICT but what I hate most is calculating figure and so on, but I'm willing to learn deeply about computer and look more into the computer about programing and creating websites in the computer.

Session1:Introduction

After the first session today i realized that learning ICT is important and crucial, and that there are plenty of resources for ICT around us, and i became aware that ICT is growing and becoming irresistable to everyone and that there are lots of areas that are yet to be discovered.

Session2:Computer Hardware Basics:

                Computer Main Components

After the second session today I learnt that computer is a programmed machine and that Hardware and Software are the main entities of a computer, in addition there are elements such as people and data. More over, it came to a conclusion that there are many reasons to why we are dependable on computers and its world.

Session3: Computer Hardware Basics:

         Number Systems- Decimal, Binary, Octal and Hexadecimal

Now this is the part that i dislike, but what choice do i have other than to stay calm and complete this topic. I understood just a little in the topic, but i still got stuck in calculating this number systems.

However, i learnt alittle how to read and write numbers in decimal, binary, octal and hexadecimal and to convert a number string in a number system into other number systems, and also to appreciate the uniqueness of numbering system especially in making the computer understand human's instructions.

 

 

 

 

                   

 

Entering a New Enviroment

Introduction

My name is Tania Allan from Vanuatu, and I am 19yrs old. I am currently studying in Malaysia in Albukhary International University (AIU); it’s almost 5 months from now studying here in AIU. I am now in Foundation, studying 4 courses and out of the 4 courses I will be giving my personal reflection based on Computer and the Internet (IT). My personal reflection will be based on the things that I’ve been learning throughout each session of each week.

As I walked into AIU it was like entering a palace. The buildings are huge, bigger than my home country, the places were so beautiful and i really admired it. It really is the first time for me to travel to a place that i knew nothing about, but i adapted quiet well to this new environment.

Living in this new environment is like my second home, there is nothing to worry about, like food, clothes and the place to stay in addition to that we also receive our monthly allowance.
The first time I entered this University I wasn't really home-sick because there are many students here internationally and locals. I got to know many of the students for a month, most of them were really friendly and some were like elder siblings to me, I even got to know a few of the stuffs and they were also kind and helpful. There is also this Student Affair Department, they are here to help the students and solve problems among students.

The University not only provides academically to students but it also encourages the students to become a model university characterized by high quality education and humanitarian values aimed at empowering underprivileged and disadvantaged students.

I've also learnt about different cultures and traditions by taking part in cultural events that AIU has been organizing, I even travel to a few places in Malaysia and explore what its like in Malaysia due to the community services that AIU is organizing.

I am really thank full for the scholarship that was given to me by Albukhary International University and thank full to God for helping, guiding and directing me to AIU.
